Sector 7
A visual tour de force revealing the
truth about clouds
Like many of Wiesners books, this
one has a disarmingly ordinary start, but develops and unfolds like
no other. In this wordless adventure, a boy who likes to draw attends
a class field trip to the Empire State Building. While atop the
skyscraper, the boy is befriended by a mischievous cloud, who takes
him to the Cloud Dispatch Center for Sector 7. There, the clouds,
bored with their everyday appearances, ask the young artist to design
some new shapes for them. He obliges, setting off an extraordinary
and touching visual adventure.
Reviews
*Caldecott
medalist Wiesner again takes to the air, with watercolors that render
words superfluous.
Publishers Weekly, starred review
*The
illustrations, ranging from full-page spreads to small vignettes,
are startlingly and powerfully conceived, the fanciful cloud-shapes
both funny and elegant. . . . Definitely inspires a bit of sky-watching.
